Large-Scale Laser Projection for Millimeter-Accurate Positioning

Using a multi-projector system composed of several Z-LASER units, Natec GmbH has optimized the production of roof and nail plate trusses. The precise laser projection displays the exact positions of rafters, purlins, and nail plates directly on the working surface. As a result, wooden components can be positioned quickly, precisely, and repeatably – ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency in timber fabrication.

Challenges

In the production of nail plate trusses, rafters, struts, and purlins must be positioned with absolute accuracy before being joined together. Traditionally, this was done using mechanical templates or measurement systems, which were time-consuming to set up and offered limited precision, especially for large-scale assemblies. Even minor deviations could lead to alignment errors, rework, and material waste. With increasing production volumes and growing quality demands, Natec sought a way to digitally transform and accelerate its positioning and assembly processes.

Solutions

To achieve this, Natec GmbH implemented a multi-projector system from Z-LASER, consisting of several precisely calibrated laser projectors that work together to create a large, seamless projection area. The system projects the exact positions for rafters, braces, and nail plates directly onto the assembly table, eliminating the need for physical templates.

With millimeter-level projection accuracy and centralized control via the ZLP Suite software, multiple projectors operate in perfect synchronization to cover large-scale timber assemblies without gaps or overlaps. This integration enables a faster, safer, and standardized production workflow – a major step toward digitalization in timber manufacturing.

A long-standing customer of Z-LASER, Natec GmbH designs and produces nail plate truss structures of various shapes and sizes, offering full service from design to installation. To optimize production in the timber sector, Natec relies on advanced Z-LASER projection technology for precise component placement.

Multiple ZLP series laser projectors are connected in a synchronized multi-projection setup, creating a unified large-scale projection. This system projects the exact assembly positions for rafters, purlins, and nail plates directly onto the work surface. Operators can position the timber components precisely along the projected lines without manual measuring or marking.

The result: significantly reduced setup times, increased repeatability, and consistent quality across all truss assemblies. With this innovative approach, Natec demonstrates how digital laser projection can be successfully integrated into existing timber manufacturing processes – setting a new standard for efficiency and precision in the wood construction industry.

Fazit

By adopting the multi-projector system from Z-LASER, Natec GmbH has elevated its roof truss production to a new level of performance. The combination of large-scale laser projection, high precision, and digital control ensures maximum efficiency and process reliability. This technology replaces conventional templates and enables fast, error-free, and repeatable production – a prime example of successful digital transformation in the timber construction sector.
